It pays to know people...

I just talked to my friend Debbi. It turns out that she grew up about 45 minutes from Meridian, and still has quite a bit of family there. (I knew that she went to Mississippi to visit family but never knew what city.) Anyway, she said that we would love the town. In fact, she said it is similar to Midland.

Some of the things that she said:

1. There are no bad neighborhoods. She has felt safe in any part of Meridian.
2. There is a huge "youth culture" in the area. There will be plenty for the boys to do.
3. Really nice, huge library system.
4. Four seasons. Summer ends in December and Starts in February. :o) There might be a few fall days where you will need a jacket, but not many. The fall is gorgeous, and there is a good bit of rain in the spring.
5. You are centrally located. Just a few hours from Atlanta, New Orleans, Birmingham, Memphis.
6. Lots and lots of out door stuff to do.
7. Tons of food and Native American festivals.
8. Long growing season and gardening is a breeze.
9. Big homeschooling community.
10. They will come to visit us, because they are in the area a few times a year.
11. If she were to move back to Mississippi, Meridian would be one of her top two choices.
12. It is a nice, smallish southern town.

She has also been to Norman, Oklahoma. (She travels a lot for her job.) She said it can't even compare to Meridian.

Keep your fingers crossed that if we do end up being transfered, it is to Meridian.
